Text: Genesis 37:5-11

Discovering and walking in your God-given purpose is a journey—not a single event. Just like Joseph, everyone who is truly called by God must go through stages of development. Understanding these stages equips you to stay the course and not give up when things get tough.

Here are the 5 stages of fulfilling purpose:

1. The Prophecy (Dream) Stage

Genesis 37:5-11

This is the stage where God reveals His purpose for your life. Joseph was 17 when he saw the dream of greatness, but he didn’t see the pain in between.
This stage stirs excitement but often lacks details. That’s because if God revealed the process up front, we might give up before we begin.

Many at this stage make the mistake of sharing prematurely, causing envy and opposition—often from those closest to them. Like Jeremiah, who said, “I am only a child,” but God called him a prophet.

Key reminder: God shows you the end, but hides the journey, so your faith can grow.

Habakkuk 2:3 – “Though it tarry, wait for it…”

2. The Pit Stage

Genesis 37:18-24

This is the stage of rejection, betrayal, and stripping. Friends become foes. Your “robe of many colors” (status, achievements, etc.) may be taken from you, but your calling can’t be taken.

People may judge your vision based on your background or limitations, but they didn’t see what God showed you.

God may intentionally remove you from comfort and familiarity to grow you in ways that only isolation can produce.

Hold on. God is with you.

3. The Prison Stage

Genesis 39:19-23

This is the season of delay, confinement, and hiddenness. You know God spoke, but nothing seems to be happening. You feel forgotten, falsely accused, misunderstood—yet you must endure.

In this stage, God builds your character, discipline, and leadership. Joseph used this time to grow in administration, emotional maturity, and spiritual gifts.

The prison is preparation for the palace. Your attitude determines your altitude.

4. The Platform Stage

Genesis 41:14-15

This is where God brings you into visibility and responsibility. Joseph moved from the prison to standing before Pharaoh—but he didn’t get there overnight. 13 years of preparation positioned him to interpret Pharaoh’s dream.

This stage teaches you that preparation in private leads to impact in public.
God doesn’t raise you to show off—He raises you to solve problems.

A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before kings. (Proverbs 18:16)

5. The Palace Stage

Genesis 50:15-21

This is the stage of fulfillment, where your dream manifests. But it’s not about status or self-glory—it’s about serving others. Joseph said, “God sent me ahead to preserve life.”

You are blessed to be a blessing, saved to save others, and elevated to be a ladder for others.
Purpose is always kingdom-focused, not ego-centered.

Your testimony is proof that others can also rise through God’s hand.

Conclusion: Trust the Process

God is not in a hurry. He’s more interested in who you are becoming than in where you are going. Don’t despise the process; it is preparing you for the promise.
Stay humble, stay faithful, and don’t skip stages.

Prayers

  1. Lord, grant me the grace to trust the process.

  2. Father, help me endure every stage with the right attitude.

  3. Lord, develop my character while I wait.

  4. May I never miss my training in the prison stage.

  5. Lord, prepare me for the platform and the palace with wisdom and humility.

  6. Keep me focused on Your purpose and not distracted by pain.

📌 Whatever stage you’re in right now—know that it’s a step in God’s divine plan for your life.
